After the success at Shady Camp, we ventured off to Kakadu and set up at the Merl Camping Area, adjacent to the Cahill River Crossing on the East Alligator River. Entry to Kakadu is $25 per person. Pretty rough. Camp fees are the highest I’ve ever seen at $10 per person per night. Expensive going through Kakadu, must be because it’s a federally controlled national park. Probably another scheme dreamt up by labour to cover their inability to manage the budget and addiction to spending! But the facilities were good with excellent toilets and warmish showers. A very busy camping area. That night we had another successful round of barra fishing at Cahill crossing much to our delight.
